Your AI coworker

Not Clippy. A coworker you train.

Balances isn't a chatbot bolted into the corner — it's a coworker you teach. Tell it how you work, in plain English: "I'm cash-basis, always book the hardware store as Job Materials, and don't bug me about coffee under $25." It remembers, and runs your books your way.

Teach it your preferences with Agent Skills — it works the way you do

Ask "when do I run out of cash?" or "what will I owe in taxes?" — answered from real numbers

It drafts invoices, categorizes transactions, and posts entries on request

It gets more accurate every time you correct it

The Review feed puts all your bookkeeping in one place. New transactions it categorized, receipts it matched to invoices and bills, transfers it paired, reimbursements and draft documents — all waiting in one list. Approve them one at a time, in batches, or clear the whole queue at once.

Invoices, estimates, and payments in one place

Send a branded estimate, let the customer accept it online, and convert it to an invoice in one click. Get paid by card or ACH bank transfer through Stripe — and Balances chases the late payers so you don't have to.

Why we built this

Most accounting software was designed 20 years ago. You click through menus, fill out forms, and wait for reports.

We think you should just be able to say what you need.

Balances is built from the ground up around AI—not bolted on as an afterthought.

What's new

June 2026

June 27

Editable Reimbursement Dates & Assistant Short-Payment Routing

The date on any draft reimbursement is now editable — a mis-typed trip date is a quick fix instead of a void-and-recreate — and multi-currency exchange rates recalculate automatically. Tell the assistant exactly where a short-payment difference should post (e.g., foreign-tax withholding to a receivable account), matching the account-picker control on the reconciliation page.

June 26

Choose Where Short-Payment Differences Post, Receipt-Match Confirmations & Per-Account Payment Controls

When a deposit comes in short of the invoice — a withheld processor fee, a wire fee, or foreign tax at source — pick exactly which account the difference posts to, so fees land right and foreign-tax withholding can be booked as a reclaimable asset. Toggle payment receipt on individual balance-sheet accounts from Settings → Chart of Accounts. The "Match & file" receipt flow now confirms before filing, shows every candidate when amounts tie, can attach to an already-categorized charge, and marks filed receipts with a "Matched" label and a receipt icon on the bank line. Plus Quarter/Year/Fiscal-Year grouping on Activity by Contact, unified Inbox status labels across web and mobile, permanent Inbox file deletion, iOS Products & Services management (private beta), and faster multi-currency dashboard and reports.

June 25

Match & File Receipts to Bank Charges, Books Health Checks (early access) & Smarter Opening-Balance Setup

Forward a receipt to your Inbox and, when the matching card charge imports from your bank feed, Balances detects the match and offers a one-click "Match & file" — filing the receipt and categorizing the charge with no duplicate expense. New Books Health checks (early access) catch issues before month-end: vendors categorized inconsistently, and duplicate vendor contacts you can merge in a click. Opening-balance setup now waits for your history to sync, then nudges you with a suggested amount based on your actual transactions. And during statement reconciliation, the assistant sorts unmatched transactions into duplicates vs. unexplained and can clear dozens of duplicates in one pass.
