Your Claude can do your books.
Connect Balances to Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, or any MCP client. Ask for what you need in your own words and it works in your real ledger, with the same review-and-approve step you get in the app.
Included with Pro and Global. No extra charge.Things you can say
Real accounting, not a chatbot bolted on. Over a hundred tools cover categorizing, invoicing, bills, reconciliation, rules, and reports.
“Categorize everything from last month and flag anything you are not sure about.”
“Draft an invoice to Acme Corp for the March retainer and show me before it goes out.”
“Which vendors did we spend more on this quarter than last?”
“Reconcile the checking account against the statement I just uploaded.”
“Set up a rule so anything from Globex Software goes to software subscriptions.”
“Pull a profit and loss for Q2 and export it to Excel.”
Connect in three steps
Works with Claude Desktop, Claude Code, claude.ai connectors, ChatGPT, Cursor, and VS Code.
Step 1
Copy your server URL
In Balances, open Settings and choose MCP. Your workspace has its own server URL.
Step 2
Paste it into your client
Add Balances as a connector in Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, VS Code, or any client that speaks MCP.
Step 3
Approve once, then just ask
A consent screen shows what the connection can do. After that, talk to your books the way you already talk to Claude.
You stay in charge of the numbers
Claude does the work. The books are still yours to sign off on.
Nothing posts to your ledger until you review and approve it. Claude stages the change, you apply it.
Every change is logged with who made it and when, and can be reversed.
Your client gets the same permissions as your role in the workspace, nothing more.
Sending invoices and emails stays inside the app, so nothing goes out to a customer by accident.
Questions
What is MCP?
The Model Context Protocol is an open standard that lets an AI client like Claude or ChatGPT work with outside tools. Balances publishes its accounting as MCP tools, so a client you already use can read your books and, with your approval, make changes.
Which clients work?
Any client that supports MCP connectors. We test with Claude Desktop, claude.ai connectors, Claude Code, ChatGPT, Cursor, and VS Code.
Does it cost extra?
No. Connecting your own client is included with Pro and Global at no additional charge. You will need an account with the client you connect, and connector support depends on that client's plan.
Is it safe to let an AI edit my books?
Changes go through the same stage, review, and apply flow as the assistant inside Balances. You see exactly what will happen before it happens, every change is logged, and changes can be reversed.
Can my accountant connect too?
Yes. Anyone you have invited to the workspace can connect their own client, and their access matches their role.
Do I still get the assistant inside Balances?
Yes. The in-app assistant is unchanged. Connecting your own client is another way to do the same work from wherever you already are.
